Script

Item 1: Our rehearsed improvisation was different to our actual performance. When we was rehearsing we was trying out many different types of scenes. For example to scene where Zaks character was buying the phone of Henry who was a undercover cop. But Zak wasn’t sure but he wasn’t taking any chances because his family was struggling with money and they need money for things like food and clothes.

item 2: In our performance situation that we decided to explore with the script was that we was we were trying to show that Syrians struggle so much in their country and how hard it is to survive in a way how they were living. Because they was living how they was, this caused them to think that they would risk everything to get out of there that is why in our performance we tried to show that kind of lead up to having to leave your own home and how it feels to have to leave all the memory’s your had at there house. Leaving would also cause them to have to leave all off there belongs behind. There was also another scene that was was going to do we was going to do a scene where Zak(the father) was selling a phone for money so he will be able to feed his child (Alim). There was only one extra character that was decided to add to our performance and that was when we on the boat and Henry played the sick man at the front of the boat. There was suppose to be a few extra characters but we had to cut them out because we didnt have enough people in our group for it to happen. The character that i was playing was a kid called Alim and it showed what he had to go through in his life. There was a powerful scene that we done where Alim stepped up onto a box in the middle of a war just after his mum ad been shot and died. He said ” I remember, i remember it all , when the bombs where falling, when families didn’t know whether they were going to survive the night, i remember the way how my parents would smile just to make me feel safe.” In Our play we used repetition to show how his life was affected by all the bad things that has happened to him.

Costumes: In our performance we wanted my character to wear a T-shirt because it would represent they way in what people say about you sticks with you sometimes for life so having this T-shirt in view for the audience to show them the impact that a few words can stay with someone for the rest of there life. For example on one of the T-shirts one of the quotes says “Dirty immigrants” this of course is a very rude thing to say to someone especially if that person has came to the country to start a better life and live in a safe environment but when people that have no idea where these immigrants have come from or what has happened to them in the past or in there old country. This is also one of the most important reasons why we decided to do the scene with the T-shirts. We also had another T-shirt which was underneath the one with all the bad things that happened to him in his past life. We decided to write on the T-shirt “home” on it so when it comes towards the ed of the performance the first shirt had about two rips in the so when we ripped the first shirt everyone would be able to see the shirt that had home on it. This represents that the boy has let go of all of them feelings and all of those horrible things that people called him when he came to this new country. This also shows a powerful statement shown by the boy that immigrants are safe anywhere because they are either being shot at or have never truly been accepted so they are being abused.

Scene 1, Son dad and random guy on the boat:

Son: Dad, where are we going?

Dad: don’t worry we will be there soon.

Son: But, where are we going ?

Dad: listen son , where we are going will be a safe place. When we get there we will be able to live a normal life. (starting to get a little angry.)

Son: We all my toys be there?

Dad: Yes son, if you want.

Son: Will mummy there?

Dad: no, mummy’s in a better place.

Son: Why i want mum to be there!

Dad: MUMMY IS NOT GOING TO BE THERE (he said sadly)

(10 seconds pause)

Son: Dad, are you ok?

Dad: I’m sorry i shouted. I’m just a bit frustrated.

the plan

The Author of the poem “Eden rock” Charles Causley speaks about a mother and a father who are still quite young but as one reads through the poem one can realise that the author chooses to portray this from the child’s perspective. The protagonists’ father occurs as young man and who is said to be “of genuine Irish tweed” as well, is portrayed as a unchanging and confident man who’s dog never leaves his sight “still two years old and trembling at his feet”.

his mother, who is 23 years old who sounds really nice and also sounds like a very picky and prestige women. he says “my mother, 23 in a sprigged dress drawn at her waist, ribbon in her straw hat, has spread the stiff white cloth over the grass. her hair, the colour of wheat takes on the light.”

Another way in which Thomas Hardy has presented love as a curse would be by mentioning ‘love deceives’. This quotation also makes a link to a negative type theme through the word ‘deceive’. This word explains how their relationship was full of lies and how they were untrustworthy as they may have been doing things behind each others backs.

This is a use of a metaphor because of how love cannot physically deceive but instead Thomas Hardy has compared it to their relationship in order to inform the reader of what type of relationship these two people share in the poem. The love can also be seen as curse as deceitfulness consists of lies and trickery and that can also be seen in curses.

Thomas Hardy says ‘tedious riddles of years ago’. The fact that Thomas Hardy has mentioned riddles explains how their love may have been similar as they find it hard to understand and crack each other which is also the same scenario in a riddle. Also, he mentions it as a memory as it is something that has happened in the past and can be looked back upon as a bad memory. This is a curse as it shows how the whole love was not real and could be seen as a trap for him to be hurt.

Hardy describes love as a curse throughout the poem. This was done by using a range of language devices which present the love as a curse. I will be exploring all the different ways in which Thomas Hardy has used different language features and devices and explain them in great detail. Also, I will be making links to how Thomas Hardy may have linked his poem to how the love may have been cursed between the two people in the poem. The second point is when Thomas Hardy says ‘tedious riddles of years ago’. The first way in which Thomas Hardy has presented love as a curse would be the way he was describing a pond on a ‘winter day’. This quotation has a sense of negativity because of how he mentioned the season. The season is during winter and the fact that he has mentioned this suggests that it is a bad memory due to the fact that cold, winter days are known to be dull and miserable. This makes a link to how the love may have been quite negative and how there was no real bond. This also links to how the love may be portrayed as a curse as curses generally represent negative things.

Drama

Introduction

In our drama production we used the stimulus of the young boy Aylan Kurdi and how it had a social, cultural and historical effects it had. Aylan Kurdi was a three year old Syrian who was forced out of his own country due to the growing power of ISIS in Syria. Aylan Kurdi’s family fled in a plastic inflatable boat, which was making a dangerous journey across the Mediterranean sea.The plastic boat capsized and the family was washed ashore on a Turkish beach. Only the father this horrible incident.

In our performance we decided to use the central question “when home becomes unsafe were can you call home”. we created this central question because we thought about  how the immigrants had to suddenly pick there stuff up and flee so that they were safe, because of this we wanted to see how the progression of the immigrants and how they tryed too find some place to call home.

from this we could have created a scenario were the migrant were settled down into a new home, but the stess of having to move and the media portraying them in a negative way, makes them feel more and more isolated causing them to feel like they cant accept there place they are living as home.one of the pros for this scenario could be that we could show how the media and the people wouldn’t want the migrants in their country. one of the cons for this scenario would be the fact that we wouldn’t be able to fully understand why they left there form country and what affects it had on them. Another pro would be that we could see how they couldn’t call anywhere home.

Item 1

In our performance we decided to use the situation of  a family and how the son was remembering(the words “I remember” being a keyword) how his dad was arguing to his wife about how they weren’t going to leave even though they weren’t safe, the scene later turns into the mum and dad protecting there child from the bombs and gun shots , the son and the dad survive but the mum dies. the son the goes on to remember how him and his father made a treacherous journey towards somewhere safe, when they get there they finally find a home but then it symbolically crumbles in there hands. This idea came from the central question, which made us think about how the journey was for the migrants and how they had to struggle to find a home.We discarded a scenario were the migrants selling stuff illegally on the streets to make money, the reason why we didn’t choose this as one of the scene’s was because it wouldn’t really portray how the migrants in our scene try to find a home, it also wouldn’t make sense due to our central question.

In our rehearsed improvisation we used 4 characters, 3 of which are main characters:                                       . Mum,Dad,son and a sick migrant

In the farmers bride I don’t think that the girl is presented as too immature for a relationship I think she is presented as not ready because she don’t really want to be the man. She is 12 or 13 so maybe she is too scared of the idea of sex with the older man. That may be the reason for her running away. Running away was a good idea but no a very smart one because she knew if she got caught it would have just made matters worse for her. But because she was so scared she decided to run away and risk the fact of her getting caught and making things worse for her. She eventually got caught and the men she was caught by the men that worked for the man who forced her to get married to this man. For her punishment his men had her locked up and didn’t let her out to stop her from running away again. He also talks about how they use to make riddles years ago which shows the readers that they were a better couple many years ago this also shows that they have been together for a long time which to me sounds like they really loved each other but in the first paragraph it sounds like its a new fresh relationship and maybe they don’t really know that much about each other. But in the second paragraph he talks about the good times they had so his shows it might miss the way how they use to be.The speaker reflects back to a particular moment in their life when they realised that the love had died between them and the person they were in a relationship with. They consider what this moment has meant to them since. The speaker reflects back to a particular moment in their life when they realised that the love had died between them and the person they were in a relationship with. They consider what this moment has meant to them since. The speaker does not reach a conclusion about who is to blame for the end of the relationship and remains the same.

how was love presented in

In the poem Thomas Hardy was talking about how him and his lovers relationship was not as strong as they thought it would be because he saying things such as how they “stood by a pond that winter day” and how the leaves had fallen from and ash and they were grey. To me that doesn’t really sound like a positive relationship. Because saying things such as how the leaves are grey doesn’t really represent a nice good relationship.Things such as how the leaves were grey and how they would stand by the pond on a winters day sounds dull.

he also talks about how they use to make riddles years ago which shows the readers that they were a better couple many years ago this also shows that they have been together for a long time which to me sounds like they really loved each other but in the first paragraph it sounds like its a new fresh relationship and maybe they don’t really know that much about each other. But in the second paragraph he talks about the good times they had so his shows it might miss the way how they use to be.

In the third paragraph Thomas Hardy talks about her looks and how her smile was the “deadliest thing alive enough to have strength to die and a grin of bitterness swept there by like a ominous bird a wing.” This shows maybe he still loves her because if he doesn’t really love her how he use to other wise her wouldn’t be talking about her how he is now.

In the last paragraph he talks about what went wrong with the relationship The reader is left entirely alone to make up their mind about any reaction to the poem they might have. However, it is important to remember that the reader is dealing with only one side of the story – the speaker’s. We have no idea how the other person feels or what they think, so for the reader it is much harder to remain entirely neutral.

keen lessons that love deceives And wrings with wrong, have shaped to me/ Your face’  Stanza four reveals that time has moved on and what we have been reading about so far has happened in the past. This shows the lasting power of the memory and the impact it has had on the speaker’s view of love.

The speaker reflects back to a particular moment in their life when they realised that the love had died between them and the person they were in a relationship with. They consider what this moment has meant to them since. The speaker reflects back to a particular moment in their life when they realised that the love had died between them and the person they were in a relationship with. They consider what this moment has meant to them since. The speaker does not reach a conclusion about who is to blame for the end of the relationship and remains the same.

My interpretation of the he poem Porphyrias lover is that there is a man who is ill and has a sickness called porphyria which is a mental illness. He imagines his illness as a woman who loves him and gives herself to him and as porphyria try’s to control him he thinks for a while and then decides to kill porphyria. Earlier in the poem it explained porphyrias love for him by her action and then says “and made her smooth white shoulder bare and her yellow hair displaced, and stooping, made my cheek lie there” this showed that she would protect him so then at the end of the poem when he killed porphyria he done the same thing as if to mock her and then layed all night with her . This is a way of saying that he is rid of the illness. Love is presented in porphyrias lover by using personification to describe his feelings for example “too weak , for all her Hearts endeavour, to set its struggling passion free”. This tells us how her passion struggles which gives the impression that she is trying not to love but the passion she has it struggling to come out which then gives us the impression that her love is uncontrollable The poem continues to fascinate readers because of the genre , the fact that the poem is grusem and involves someone else’s getting hurt draws the reader I’m to want to find out Wat will happen next. It also gives a sense of suspense and the indroduction actravts the reader straight away just but describing the setting as a dark place where bad things happen. These sort of thing accuracy readers and keeps them interested.

In this essay i will be writing about the comparisons between the film into the wild by Sean Penn and the book by Jon Krakauer in which they both present the mcCandless family in different way some good and some bad

the film presents Walt mccandless as a world apart from his son where as the novel presents Walt and Chris as sharing similar core characteristics. Example from the film the entrance of the sports team into the formal dining hall and over the shoulder shot of Walt’s reaction compared with similar shot of Chris. An example from the novel colleagues refer to him Walt as brilliant while Chris came into this world with unusual gifts.

into the wild is a novel about a young man who makes the decision to donate all he’s money to charity and take up a life on the road. Along his journey he encounters many obstacles, some that he can not overcome. in this essay we will be comparing and contrasting between the novel (written by Jon Krakaure)and the film (directed by Sean Penn) the main differences we will be comparing are between how the family of Christopher McCandless are portrayed and come across in the novel and in the film.

one of the main differences between the novel and the film is the way Chris is presented to act towards he’s parents, in then novel, a day after Chris’s graduation in tells us in the novel that Chris buys he’s mother gifts for mothers day.

In the film into the wild Billie mcCandless is presented as fake ,where as in the novel she is presented as a caring mother. an example that portrays Billie as a fake in the film is when Chris comes to the fancy restaurant after his graduation just before he comes inside and is just parked in his car Billie looks at his car with disgust because she see’s his old car parked between two new cars. she also is portrayed as fake because when he walks in and sits down Billie  tells him she would like to buy him a new car to get him out out of that junk yard car. this shows that she is fake because she only cares about how her and her family looks rather than care about her sons feelings towards the car. In the novel, she is portrayed as a caring mother because she hand knits Christopher McCandless a blanket. We also know that she is a caring mother because if he really did despise his parents, then he wouldn’t have taken the blanket that Billie made for him to Alaska with him, but instead that was the only thing that he took from home which shows that he loved the fact that she made him this instead of buying him one which shows that she is caring. This shows that she is caring because he cared a lot for the blanket meaning that he had strong feelings for his mother, showing the reader than she cared about him enough for him to love her gift so much, also she is caring because she was worried that her son might be cold and she made him a blanket showing that she cares about his well being.

Christopher McCandless was a 23 year old man who set out to the wild for his personal ambition a year later he was found dead. both jon Krakuer and Sean Penn have interpreted McCandless’s story in their personal way krakeur making a book and Penn in making a movie. in this essay I will be analysing the comparison between McCanless’s family and McMcandless himself in the book and the film.

The film presents McCandless’s family in an negative way. an example in the film is Physical fights. they are portrayed in a negative manner through out the film. in the book there is no evidence that Walt and Billie ever got in an physical fights. Penn uses this scene in the movie to show that both parents didn’t get along another. in the book they show an negative side of McCandless family but also shows that both parents loved McCandless. the movie also shows Chris McCandless dislike in his parents as the movie portrays that Chris McCandless did not like his parent an evidence in the movie is his speech to Carine McCandless wishing his parents should have never have met. this shows that Chris McCandless did not like his parents relationship. another evidence that shows that Chris McCandless disliked his parent especially his dad is when he found out that his father had another family this appears in the book and was one of the reason Chris McCandless disliked his father.

both the book and movie show an strong relationship between Chris McCandless and Carine McCandless the book and the movie presents Chris as a caring brother towards Carine the evidence that shows this was Chris and Carine would walk home together after school holding hand this was mentioned in the book and suggest that Chris loved Carine very much. Another evidence that shows that Chris and Carine had a strong relationship is from the movie is the scene were Chris and Carine are in the car together as Chris was reading to her. this scene shows the trust between Chris and Carine. the books mostly shows the relationship between the two characters as the movie not so much. the book also tells that she viewed her brother as a roll model as he was talented in everything he did this suggest that Carine respected he brother deeply an evidence that showed that Carine respecter her older brother is she joining her school band because of Chris and her starting to play the French horn because of her brother the only thing she was better than Chris at the movie doesn’t show an early life.he is also showing that he is rebbeling By burning his money he is showing that he is not willing to follow with society and saying that this money is useless and causes people pain in their lives suggesting money is depraved.

Drama hw4

The character off foreman shows us how he’s is if he’s manager or not. In this scene the foreman shows us the key to his motivation which was fear. While his fellow workers were working hard on finishing this wall while also having alone of this pressure on their shoulders but they can not concentrate on saving their country but they keep on getting distracted.

During ww1 (1914-1918) large numbers of women were recruited into jobs that the men would normally do because they were in the war. New jobs also came up as part of the war effort. For example women were working in factories becoming the largest single employer of women during the war. Around this time the government began coordinating the employment   Of women through campaigns and recruitment drives. This led to women working in places where men would normally work. For example women were working as railway guards, ticket collectors, buses and tram conductors, postal workers, police, firefighters and bank tellers and clerks. Women were even working with huge heavy machinery in engeering, led carts horses on farms, and worked in civil service and factories. Even though they would receive lower wages even though they would do the same work and thus began some of the earliest demands for equal pay. by 1917 munitions factories, which primarily employed women workers, produced 80% of the weapons and shells used by the British Army known as “canaries” because that is used as an explosive agent in munitions which caused their skin to turn yellow, these women risked their lives working with poisonous subsenses without adequate protective clothing or the required safety measures. Around 400 women had died from overexposure  to TNT during WW1.
